[Title] Neglect and Related Disorders Among Right Brain-damaged Stroke Patients: Toward Developing Trial for Japanese Version the Catherine Bergego Scale. [Purpose] The purpose of this study was to identify the availability of the Catherine Bergego Scale Japanese version (CBS-J). [Theoretical] This study was towards scale development of the daily life difficulties among right brain-damaged (RBD) stroke patients with neglect and related disorders (NRD). Catherine Bergego Scale is based on a direct obvervation of the patient's functioning in 10 real-life situations. [Subjects & Method] Twenty right brain-damage (RBD) first-ever stroke patients (man 14,female 6;mean age of 70.4}8.13years; infarction 16, hemorrhage 4;with Neglect 19, Asomatognosia 2,with both 2,with Dressing apraxia 1) with Neglect and related disorders (NRD) were classified into 3 groups, mild(n=6),moderate(n=10),severe(n=4),according the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS, mean of 9.1}3.5) score, and were evaluated functional, observated and interviewed using the CBS-J at 1 month after discharge. Comparisons of 3 groups, according to stroke severity, were analyzed by one-way ANOVA in CBS-J-Observation score, CBS-J-Self-valuation score, and CBS-J-Anosgnosia score. [Results] Demographics was no difference, CBS-Observation score, CBS-evaluation and CBS-Anosgnosia score were difference significantly. CBS-J- observation score and CBS-J-Anosognosia score were significantly related to stroke severity, CBS-J-Self-evaluation score was no related to stroke severity. CBS-J-Self-evaluation score suggested that disability which cannot be aware of daily life difficulties. According to stroke severity, NRD among right brain-damaged stroke patients can be evaluated by using CBS [Conclusions] CBS-J is considered to be an available and useful scale for Neglect behavioral and unawareness of daily life difficulties among RBD stroke patients. Especially in using CBS-J and providing care for RBD patients, nurses should consider the cognitive disability of self-unawareness regarding difficulties related to Neglect behavior in daily life.
